Then we filled in all the sections, leaving each to dry while tackling a non-adjacent one. He taught us to save specific locations for shadows so that they could be filled in with dark paint instead of painted over many times and to be sure to leave white paper showing through for highlights. For the desert background, we practiced making a spectrum of one color flowing into another (first on another paper).
