Steve was invited in October 2001 to speak about film & spirituality at a Borders in Illinois, near Trinity University. On the one-hour drive over, Steve looked at the opposite lanes of the highway and commented, "I'm glad we're not going that direction! It's completely stopped." He then asked me to grab his notes and go over his talk with him. I fished around in the backseat. He thought I was playing a cruel prank when I asked if he had them somewhere else. Finally, he visualized them neatly in place on his desk. With the traffic, there was no way we could drive back in time. So, instead of reviewing his talk, we put together his talk — he dictated, and I took new notes on the back of the map printout. For all that, his talk went great! He was very collected, and he took us on an insightful journey through several films. Here he's being introduced.
