JIM & JEANIE HEETHUIS, APRIL '02
As the cap to our time with Jim & Jeanie, we went to Taproot, a Christian theater company, to see if we could get tickets to that night's show, "The Man Who Was Thursday." Everything was sold out except for exactly four tickets at around $20 each, but only two of them were together. We hemmed and hawed in front of the box office, and Jim prayed for our decision making, citing that day's verse about Jesus as our mediator. Suddenly, Jessie the ticket collector gestured us back over. Someone had just called to give up four tickets for the night and asked to have them given away! So off we happily went to Gordito's across the street, to eat supremely yummy (and generously portioned — see above) Mexican food until the play started.

With the extra time we had to kill, we went to McDonald's and got dessert, where Jim & Jeanie taught us how to play the Midwest card game euchre. My Hoosier dad will be so happy to have new partners!

After the play, we paid a few bucks for tickets to the Friday late-night comedy improv, where Jim amused himself, when they asked for volunteer words, by yelling out his favorites from the trip: "San Juan de Fuca!" "Kumquat!" and a perennial fave, "Llamas!"

It was a great visit!
