GREG LANSINGH, MAY '02
Our walk took us across the Burke-Gilman Trail (astoundingly long, paved, and great for bikers and walkers) and to the small Hiroshima Peace Park. This statue is of a 12-year-old girl in Japan who was dying of leukemia due to the atomic bombs. She tried to fold 1,000 cranes to get well. Some anonymous origami enthusiasts had decorated her with their own colorful offerings, as a symbol of peace.
