Delivered! Our stuff, that is. In mid-April, after we'd already had one set of visitors, we finally tracked down our belongings. As mentioned in a clever yet direct foreshadowing, the company that moved our stuff, in these charming wooden crates, went out of business. (Grr, Self-Pack!) This led the local storage company (grr, PortaBox!) to doubt our honor and refuse to return phone calls. When they came, they insisted on cash up front, hard to get when our new bank account had frozen our money for a month. (Why do they do this to new residents?) After much delay and extra money, we finally had our two crates delivered and hired movers to unload them. Why, oh why, we wondered, didn't we hire movers back in Indiana? Watching people unpack things is so much easier on your back than doing it yourself! (Thank you, Aaron Glide Movers!)
In the end, since Self-Pack was the only cross-country crate movers at the time, it was still the best route for us to have gone, since we didn't have to drive a truck over the mountains and could store our belongings conveniently for as long as we needed to. It was just unstoring that was the problem. Hopefully some new, honorable companies will jump into the breach and provide the same service in the future.
