On our last pre-trip day of babysitting Evan, we brought our kindly small group leaders, Bill & Kris, our gerbils to care for. That is the "streamlined" cage configuration Steve built; the piles of bags at my feet are all the gerbil-care items we decided they desperately would need; the dog is Mattie, who apparently never got over her anxiety at smelling these strange little creatures in the three weeks they shared her house.
