The Iraq war had started the day before we left. (Thanks!) If the airports hadn't done it, Philadelphia gave us our first clue of how tight East Coast security was going to be. The Liberty Bell's domicile was guarded by a makeshift corridor of metal barricades that led past uniformed park rangers and into a trailer with a metal detector.
