Times Square. We tried walking to Ground Zero and then realized we didn't have enough time to get back before our next show, but we enjoyed our time in the crowded city, anyway. Next time we'll both shell out cabfare and stay in a cheaper hotel. We found a coupon for a terrific deal on a ritzy hotel in New Jersey. It had a nice bed and towels and a pool and hot tub (the pool was the point), but it reinforced our comfort with cheap places. Our overnight cost was reasonable, but everything extra was outrageous, from $3 bottled water on the table to a $5 coffee and toast room-service breakfast. The TV had a few lousy stations, and all the rest were pay-per-view. Worst of all was the phone: a $2.50 access charge, then 50 cents a minute over 10 minutes! Give me a Motel 6 and free local calls any day. We didn't pay any of these extra fees, which meant we had to brave New Jersey's bizarre jughandle roads (no turning left in NJ!) and decamp to a Dunkin Donuts payphone to call Steve's uncle Doug Forrester (who turned out to be in California).
