We headed for Pioneer Square, where we saw the newly reconstructed Pergola, a turn-of-the-century iron canopy that had collapsed when a truck with a sleeping driver ran into it last year. When it opened in September 1909, the underground "comfort station" it decorated was known as the most ornate public restroom west of the Mississippi River. Pretty high praise! Unfortunately, it's now closed, so we had to find comfort in another way by buying ice cream nearby. To see it under construction, click here.
