CLASSES: BUCKRAM HATMAKING—JULY '02
My band was really wide to cover what wasn't covered by the fabric at the top. Using the same fabric, we made a loop (sewn on a machine this time) a little snugger than the crown, and a little wider on the bottom than top, so that it would stretch to just fit over the crown.

Many minutes were then spent arranging it in artfully draped folds. Izzie would get it to look right from one angle and then say it messed up a different angle. She left me to it, which was a lot of responsibility, since I had no idea what I was doing, but eventually I came up with something she pronounced better than her version. At which point I quickly sewed it in place (by hand again, since the stitches had to be hidden).
