Then we pulled the felt firmly over a wooden hat block that was the shape we wanted. You pull center front, then center back, then the sides, then diagonals. We tacked it down and pulled a string very tightly around the bottom of the crown. I didn't have a picture of the process, so I stole this one from a book, but you saw the finished deal in the first picture. It was easier to block than the buckram and less messy (though we did have slightly furry palms), but felt is a little more delicate than buckram, more expensive, and more apt to show improper handling, which is why it's the second hat class!
