CLASSES: WATERCOLOR—APRIL-MAY '04
I picked painting because I thought it would be fun to revert to my art-class days. I chose watercolor because I thought it would be cheaper and less intensive (space/time/effort) than oil. I don't know how expensive oils would have been, but watercolor was a LOT more expensive than I was anticipating. I guess I had been thinking of the long Crayola 8-packs you can pick up at the grocery store. Our teacher spent the first class (not to mention the supply list posted online beforehand) sort of spoiling us on any materials that weren't top-quality. We justified the expense by deciding Steve would also have to take this class later on so that all the brushes and paint tubes would get at least twice the use. The "palette" mixing plate was bought at the thrift store for 50 cents, so that was the only bargain. (Just so you know, you can click on any of the pictures in this series for a closeup of the texture and brush strokes if that sort of thing interests you. You might have to click on the new window that opens up to activate the zoom.)
