My family lived in the Duck Pond neighborhood. Kelly Whittier lived just across the pond from us. Every Fourth of July, hundreds of people (Germans and Americans alike) would descend to watch fireworks lit from the pond. We could watch from our backyard. Over toward the right is a willow-canopied grove that my friends & I decided was our secret fort.
