After our climb to the waterfall, we relaxed with Cornish cream sodas. That was only one of the many Cornish treats we enjoyed. Most were cream-based, but here Steve chows down on a hearty potato-and-veggie pasty. Miners' wives would put together whatever supper leftovers they had and bake them into a pastry crust with a thick ridge down one edge. The miners could hold the makeshift handle with one dirty hand and keep the minerals and poisons from the mine out of their mouths. They'd eat all the insides then throw away the ridge. With cleaner hands, we think the ridge is too yummy to throw away!
